Great author. Got started with Yellowstone Kelly 30+ years ago in high school and then picked up the other Kelly novels on Kindle and am now "collecting" the Montana Mysteries and am 5 or 6 books in. I've read every book I have at least twice and Yellowstone Kelly at least 5 times.

This means a great deal to me because I became friends with Peter while attending Alma College. His wife, Kay, was teaching a sculpture class, heard I was a musician, and asked me if I was interested in playing music with Peter. I said yes, and we began a musical friendship. We began to play folk music clubs and other gigs together. We played all over the midwest. When Kay's apprenticeship ended at Alma, they planned to return to Ann Arbor. Peter helped me transfer to the U of M art department, where he had friends. We played the bars and even played the Ark one time. He was always larger than life and a very brilliant man, always somehow above the fray. We split up when he decided to return to Montana, but he was a great friend and a very talented folk singer and entertainer, something that was overshadowed by his writing career, which he was still working on when i knew him. The video brings back many great memories of Peter. Thanks for sharing it.

That was Thomas Mcquane he was in that truck with. He and Thomas cowrote the script for Cold Feet, a real offbeat road comedy starring Tom Waits, Keith Carridine, Rip Torn, Sally Kirkland, and a cameo with Jeff Bridges, and a smaller cameo by Thomas McQuane himself. Big fun. Now on youtube.

If I had no idea who he was, there is no conceivable way I would be able to connect this man with his writing.

This was toward the end of his life, and he was in a lot of pain . The fact that he got up there at all was heroic.
